A Rainy Day

Fall poured heavy, wet leaves

Upon the granaries

Of grey pavement winter,

Water splashed along its rim.

Plumes of exhaust-smoke cloud

Crouch as black-throated as

The wild boar, or dark crow,

In skies tumultuous

As small, errant children.

Pouting thunderously

In sky-water cobalt,

Shrieking blue-black rage

At the cowed passerby.

To think an umbrella

Could shield them from the storm.
